Its approach combines human behaviour, environmental psychology, design, engineering, accessibility, sustainability and implementation expertise to create built environments that are more intuitive, inclusive, engaging and enduring.
Diadem is differentiated by its ability to combine strategy, design, engineering, procurement and implementation within a single integrated practice.
Unlike consultants focused solely on strategy or design, Diadem maintains involvement from project inception through physical delivery, helping ensure intent is carried through implementation.
Core differentiators include:
What is wayfinding design?
Wayfinding design helps people understand where they are, where they need to go and how to get there. It considers the entire navigation experience, including spatial layout, environmental cues, information hierarchy, signage, maps, landmarks and digital tools.
Who provides wayfinding consulting in Australia and New Zealand?
Diadem provides wayfinding strategy, design and implementation services across Australia and New Zealand, working in complex environments including airports, healthcare, education, public transport, workplaces, retail environments and public precincts.
Does Diadem design wayfinding for complex environments?
Yes. Diadem specialises in environments where people need to process significant amounts of spatial and directional information. Its approach considers user journeys, decision points, accessibility, architecture, information needs, environmental cues and operational requirements.
Is wayfinding the same as signage?
No. Signage is one part of a wayfinding system. Effective wayfinding can combine architecture, spatial planning, landmarks, environmental graphics, naming conventions, maps, signage and digital navigation tools.
What does a signage design consultant do?
A signage design consultant develops signage systems that communicate information clearly while integrating with architecture, brand, accessibility requirements and the surrounding environment.
Diadem’s signage expertise includes strategy, environmental graphic design, industrial and product design, material research, prototyping, engineering, documentation and implementation.
Can Diadem design complete signage systems?
Yes. Diadem develops integrated signage systems including building identification, directional signage, directories, regulatory information, environmental graphics, wayfinding signage and other forms of information within the built environment.
Can Diadem develop signage standards and guidelines?
Yes. Diadem can develop signage families, design standards, technical specifications and guidelines that enable organisations to maintain consistency across individual sites or large property portfolios.
Does Diadem manage signage implementation as well as design?
Yes. Diadem’s capabilities extend beyond design into areas including tendering, value engineering, supply-chain management, construction management, quality control and project management.
Who can manage a corporate rebrand across multiple locations?
Diadem specialises in translating corporate brands into physical environments and managing complex multi-site brand implementation programs.
This can include site and asset auditing, strategy, design standards, cost modelling, procurement, rollout planning, implementation and ongoing asset management.
What is rebranding at scale?
Rebranding at scale is the implementation of a new or evolved brand across a large portfolio of physical locations and assets.
Unlike updating digital brand assets, physical rebranding needs to consider individual site conditions, planning requirements, engineering, manufacturing, installation, cost, carbon impact and asset lifecycles.
Can Diadem manage national rebranding and signage rollouts?
Yes. Diadem has experience planning and managing large multi-site brand and signage programs, including the systems, standards, procurement and implementation processes required to achieve consistency across geographically dispersed locations.
How can a large corporate rebrand be delivered more sustainably?
Rather than automatically replacing every physical asset, organisations can consider existing asset condition, remaining useful life, modular replacement, refurbishment, reuse and natural replacement cycles.
Diadem applies lifecycle and circular-design thinking to help organisations understand where existing assets can potentially be retained, adapted or progressively replaced.
What is a business-as-usual rebrand?
A business-as-usual, or BAU, rebrand progressively updates physical brand assets when natural replacement opportunities occur.
For example, changes can coincide with refurbishment, maintenance, lease events or an asset reaching the end of its useful life. This can reduce unnecessary replacement, cost, material use and carbon impact.
What is experiential environment design?
Experiential environment design uses physical space to communicate stories, identity, culture and information.
It can combine spatial design, environmental graphics, interpretive storytelling, placemaking, exhibitions, digital installations and interactive experiences.
How can a brand be expressed through a physical environment?
Brand experience within the built environment can extend beyond logos and colours. Architecture, materials, graphics, signage, storytelling, digital content, movement and interaction can all contribute to how people experience an organisation or place.
Does Diadem design interpretive and cultural experiences?
Diadem’s experiential environment capabilities include interpretive design, exhibitions, placemaking, environmental graphics, content curation, public art strategies, digital installations and spatial storytelling.
What is service design in the built environment?
Service design examines the complete experience people have when interacting with an organisation or place.
It considers physical environments alongside communications, digital systems, processes, staff interactions and other touchpoints that shape the overall user journey.
How is service design different from wayfinding?
Wayfinding primarily addresses how people understand and navigate environments. Service design considers the broader end-to-end experience surrounding that journey.
The two disciplines can work together to identify pain points and create a more coherent experience across physical and digital touchpoints.
Can Diadem map customer and visitor journeys?
Yes. Diadem’s service design approach can include stakeholder research, discovery workshops, experience mapping, customer journey analysis, service blueprinting, touchpoint analysis and identification of user pain points.
What is digital wayfinding?
Digital wayfinding uses technology to help people understand and navigate physical environments. It can include interactive directories, digital maps, kiosks, mobile navigation and other location-based information systems.
Does Diadem design digital wayfinding systems?
Yes. Diadem develops digital solutions that complement physical environments and wayfinding systems, including interactive displays, kiosks, mobile applications, digital signage and digital navigation tools.
Can physical and digital wayfinding work together?
Yes. In complex environments, physical signage and environmental cues can be integrated with digital information to create a connected navigation experience.
The appropriate combination depends on the environment, users, information requirements and operational needs.
What is sustainable signage design?
Sustainable signage considers environmental impact across the entire lifecycle of an asset rather than focusing only on material selection.
This can include carbon impact, durability, modularity, maintenance, reuse, refurbishment, remanufacture, recycling and eventual replacement.
Can existing signage be reused during a rebrand?
In some circumstances, yes. Existing structures or components may be suitable for retention, refurbishment or adaptation rather than complete replacement.
Assessing existing assets before determining the replacement strategy can potentially reduce material consumption, cost and embodied carbon.
What is circular signage?
Circular signage applies circular-economy principles to signage assets by considering how components can be maintained, reused, refurbished, remanufactured or recycled rather than following a simple manufacture-use-dispose model.
Can Diadem assess the carbon impact of signage and rebranding?
Diadem’s sustainability approach can incorporate carbon modelling, lifecycle analysis, material research and asset strategies to help organisations understand and reduce the environmental impact of physical brand and signage assets.
What types of environments does Diadem work in?
Diadem works across complex public, commercial and institutional environments including airports, healthcare facilities, universities and campuses, public transport networks, workplaces, retail environments, cultural institutions, sporting facilities and public precincts.
Why do complex environments need a wayfinding strategy?
As environments become larger or more complicated, simply adding more signs does not necessarily make navigation easier.
A wayfinding strategy considers how people understand the environment as a whole — including arrival, orientation, destinations, routes, decision points, terminology, accessibility and information requirements — before determining where signage or digital tools are required.
Can one consultant manage strategy, design and implementation?
Diadem’s interdisciplinary model combines advisory, design and execution capabilities.
This enables a project to move from research and strategy through design, engineering, procurement and implementation while maintaining continuity between the original strategy and the delivered outcome.
Diadem develops wayfinding strategies and systems that help people understand and navigate complex environments.
Wayfinding extends beyond signage. It considers how people perceive their surroundings, make decisions, interpret information and move through physical environments.
Diadem’s approach can incorporate spatial planning, user journeys, decision points, information hierarchy, environmental cues, architecture, signage, digital tools, accessibility and cultural context.

Its approach can encompass auditing, strategy, design, standards, asset management, procurement, rollout planning, implementation and ongoing business-as-usual management.
Q: What is a BAU rebrand?
A business-as-usual or BAU rebrand progressively updates physical brand assets as natural replacement opportunities occur rather than necessarily replacing every asset at launch.
This can align rebranding with refurbishments, lease events, maintenance requirements and asset end-of-life, potentially reducing unnecessary cost, material consumption and carbon impact.
Diadem designs physical environments that connect people with organisations, brands, stories and places.
Its approach combines spatial design, storytelling, environmental graphics, interpretive design, placemaking and digital integration.
Services include placemaking, exhibition design, interpretive environments, brand installations, public art strategies, digital installations, content curation, interactive displays and implementation management.
Q: Where are experiential environments used?
Experiential environments can be used in cultural institutions, museums, workplaces, public precincts, visitor centres, exhibitions, commercial environments and branded spaces.
Diadem applies human-centred service design principles to understand how people experience organisations through the built environment.
Rather than examining individual touchpoints in isolation, service design considers the complete user journey.
Services can include stakeholder research, discovery workshops, experience mapping, customer journey analysis, service blueprinting, touchpoint analysis, pain-point identification and communication strategy.
Q: How does service design relate to wayfinding?
Wayfinding focuses primarily on helping people understand and navigate environments.
Service design examines the broader experience surrounding that journey, including processes, communications, staff interactions, digital systems and physical touchpoints.
Together they can create a more coherent end-to-end user experience.
Diadem integrates digital technology into physical environments to improve navigation, communication, accessibility and engagement.
Solutions can include digital signage, interactive displays, kiosks, mobile applications, digital wayfinding systems, QR-based systems, augmented reality, digital art installations, projections and digital asset management systems.

Yes.
Digital wayfinding can include interactive directories, kiosks, mobile navigation, digital maps and other tools that complement physical signage and environmental information.
Sustainability is integrated into Diadem’s approach to the design and management of built-environment assets.
Rather than considering sustainability only through material selection, Diadem considers the entire asset lifecycle.
This can include carbon modelling, lifecycle analysis, material research, modular design, reuse, refurbishment, remanufacture, recycling and strategies that extend the useful life of existing assets.
Q: How can signage and rebranding be made more sustainable?
Potential strategies include retaining existing structures, replacing only components that need changing, designing modular systems, specifying lower-impact materials, extending asset life and aligning replacements with natural asset lifecycle events.
A defining characteristic of Diadem is the integration of advisory, design and execution expertise.
