AUCKLAND AIRPORT

Review. Redefine.
Redesign.

New Zealand’s biggest and busiest airport sees over 20 million people walk through its terminals every year. We provide strategic wayfinding advice to make each one of those journeys easier.

Diadem was engaged to review and redesign the existing wayfinding guidelines for Auckland Airport across its terminals and forecourt. With new signage guidelines documentation in place, the airport is now able to roll out consistent and correct wayfinding solutions in the future.

Auckland Airport

International
airport experience

In 2019, more than 21 million people passed through Auckland Airport. As a major hub for the region, the airport recognises that following best practice wayfinding principles are critical.

Diadem was engaged to review and redesign its wayfinding suite, from the pick-up and drop-off points to the international and domestic terminals. The audit addressed issues including legibility (such as increased kerning and new colours), multi-lingual messaging for greater inclusion, and smoother user journeys through security controls and airside areas.

Diadem’s in-house knowledge of airport regulations informed efficient collaboration with airport management.

An advisor
and partner

Unpacking previous issues and completing a set of strategic guidelines has given the airport’s facilities team the autonomy to complete wayfinding going forward. The guidelines every element from strategy through to specifications for signage, procedures and implementation.

Diadem and Auckland Airport have since formed a strong relationship having collaborated on other projects, including wayfinding for a terminal refurbishment and signage for an adjacent business park.

Following the ANZ rebrand rollout, the Auckland Airport project was Diadem’s second in New Zealand. Diadem has since become a trusted advisor to other organisations in the Land of the Long White Cloud, including Air New Zealand and Kiwi Property.
