Over two decades of connecting people and place through wayfinding and visual language

Corporate statement

Diadem celebrates 25+ years of connecting people to place, reflecting on the enduring value of branding and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Operating at the intersection of branding and architecture, Diadem has helped the world navigate built spaces through expertise in signage, wayfinding and branded spaces.

Cultivating a specialist niche in implementing brands in the built environment, Diadem adopts a user-centric approach that considers human psychology and behaviour as part of their design process. This practice has led the company to shape the built environments guiding daily life across Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

“People interact with our work every day, they just don’t know it. You can’t walk 100 metres in a capital city in Australia or New Zealand without coming across a piece of signage or wayfinding that Diadem hasn’t touched,” says Diadem’s CEO and managing director, Dominic Russo.

With a vast project portfolio spanning the retail, transport, hospitality, corporate and financial spheres, Diadem harnesses the power of visual language in transforming brand vision into a built reality. This is witnessed in everything from marrying architectural form with brand strategy, to installing iconic sky signs.

“Impactful branding goes way beyond signage – it drills into human psychology to interpret behaviours, be ergonomic and create meaningful and authentic connection,” says director John Saddington.

Surpassing the user journey, Diadem’s practice focuses on enriching human experiences to engender culture and substance. Effortlessly combining the disciplines of branding, human psychology, design, technology, engineering and art, Diadem nurtures a sense of loyalty with the end user as they navigate daily life through both physical and digital spaces.

Founders Adrian Calleri, John Saddington and Dominic Russo first came together in 2000 with the vision of building a business that would one day hold an international reputation as experts in corporate signage and wayfinding.

Today, the company has an annual turnover of $32 million and manages an annual project portfolio of over $40 million. To date, Diadem’s projects under management have totaled over $800 million. Diadem is now a team of over 80 strategic, creative and technical specialists across six offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Auckland and Hong Kong.

Beyond signage and wayfinding management and procurement, the company has expertise in multi-disciplinary design, including communication, industrial and engineering, procurement support and project management.

The Diadem team is currently working with Commonwealth Bank, NAB, Toyota, Australia Post, Ford, European Garage (EG), Melbourne Park Precinct, Brisbane’s Queen’s Wharf, NSW Health, Commercial Bay Precinct and Kiwi Properties in Auckland, and HSBC in Hong Kong, among other clients.

“The pandemic has inevitably challenged us all to rethink how we occupy and move through physical and digital space. Wayfinding is deeply instinctual and intuitive – but how this looks in a year or two down the line will continue to evolve. It circles back to the element of experience and connection,” reflects Calleri.

Human beings thrive off interaction, and the built environment is where these vital connections most often occur. Locally and internationally, across the private and public spheres, Diadem is redefining the parameters of the user experience with invigorating ingenuity.
