Extending a
precinct skyward

Anchoring Auckland’s transformational Commercial Bay precinct, the striking PwC tower is a commercial space with dramatic views across Waitemata Harbour. It combines working areas with a hotel-style environment, a sky terrace, urban rooftop, flexible meeting spaces for building tenants and end-of-trip facilities.

Having been immersed in wayfinding and placemaking projects across Commercial Bay, Precinct engaged Diadem further to address signature elements of the tower, including a digital tenant directory for the lobby and PwC’s sky-sign.

Rethinking the
lobby screen

The digital directory needed to guide workers to their floors and visitors to rooftop bars. However, Diadem recognised an opportunity for the digital directory to go beyond wayfinding and act as a multi-purpose device.

Working hand-in-hand with the building’s architecture, the engaging floor-to-ceiling directory now informs patrons with digital content, including news and weather updates, event information and art, and emergency information when needed.

Diadem’s diverse in-house skillset delivered an end-to-end service from concept design which considered how it could be realised, built, made and ultimately installed – providing a seamless service for Precinct.

A new angle
on sky signs

As the tower’s primary tenant, PwC had an outstanding opportunity to promote its brand through a sky sign. In applying the brand to the top of the building, Diadem took into account the tower’s unique design. Rather than being classically vertical, the tower’s northern face curves back at the top, presenting installation challenges.

The project team problem-solved to ensure seamless delivery, adjusting the usual means of installation: craning and abseiling. Diadem’s proximity to the Commercial Bay site meant the project team was readily accessible and able to work through problems with efficiency.

The result is now the largest PwC sky sign in the region.
