How can a signage and wayfinding system support a commercial tower’s repositioning in a competitive leasing market?

Diadem delivered a wayfinding and signage system for 114 William Street, supporting the Melbourne CBD tower’s repositioning through a refurbished lobby, retail interface and upscale end-of-trip facilities.

A city tower reborn

Located at the corner of William and Little Collins Streets, 114 William Street is a prominent Melbourne CBD commercial tower. With a significant refurbishment of its lobby and ground plane, the tower was repositioned for the city’s current competitive leasing market.

Diadem was engaged by Armitage Jones to design a comprehensive wayfinding and signage system aligned with this transformation. As well as supporting the building’s repositioning, the signage system would need to enhance navigation and strengthen the arrival experience.

Extending the architecture

Diadem’s signage was designed to carefully integrate into the architectural and interior palette developed by architects Gray Puksand, contributing to a cohesive and elevated experience. The refined material selection and contemporary typographic approach drew directly from the building’s gridded form.

Anchored in user-centred design, Diadem’s strategic wayfinding responded to the needs of the building’s diverse audiences, from daily occupants to first-time visitors and service users. The strategy established a clear hierarchy of information across identification, directional and digital elements, including building entry signage, tenant directory, lift destination control and end-of-trip navigation.

Seamless experiences delivered

Diadem’s signage and wayfinding spanned the transformed building’s new lobby, retail interface, end-of-trip facilities, car park access and Level 1 business lounge. The result is a seamless journey from street to destination, one that prioritises clarity, accessibility and intuitive movement.

From concept design through to tender documentation and construction administration, Diadem ensured that the wayfinding system is both visually integrated and operationally effective, enabling confident navigation while enhancing the building’s new elevated identity and tenant experience.
