A new approach
to education

Manukau Institute of Technology is a leader in technical and vocational education. New Zealand’s highest performing institute of technology offers innovative and specialised education at multiple campuses throughout greater Auckland.

A new campus in the suburb of Manukau was designed to accommodate 5,000 students in the Faculty of Business and Information Technology and School of Logistics.

With a philosophy of eliminating lines between public and private realms, the new campus was based on a grand ambition: social change. The architecture reflected this in open learning spaces and unique circulation routes, which required Diadem’s expertise to ensure the navigation and user experience were considered correctly.

Architecture
inspired wayfinding

Diadem produced a wayfinding strategy that responded to the atypical architecture, including intuitive room numbering, colour-coded floors, and a graphics information system that provides an easy-to-follow hierarchy for destinations.

The signage packages were developed into design documentation and then project-managed, procured and implemented. Diadem’s project team ensured optimum value through manufacture and installation, with the design intent safeguarded at all times.

The signage and wayfinding outcome integrates seamlessly with the architecture, provides clarity to the navigation of the building, and delivers on the vision of the project: enhancing education for a new generation.
