An engaging
learning experience

The First Creek Wetland project was established in 2013 to connect visitors to the Adelaide Botanic Gardens with the critical role that plants play in the water cycle.

Diadem’s brief was to deliver a series of educational signs and installations which explain the wetland sand aquifer system and the importance of wetlands to the natural ecosystem.

As well as being informative, the signs needed to be accessible, durable and safe for the environment.

A natural
collaboration

Diadem liaised with Taylor Cullity Lethlean Architects and four other stakeholders including government bodies. The project aims to draw together the work of botanists, horticulturists, ecologists, educationalists and landscape designers in an accessible way.

David Lancashire Design undertook interpretive design to tell the story, which was then developed by Diadem into shop drawings that met accessibility, durability and safety requirements, and that remained within budget.

model at work

Diadem’s ability to recommend and advise on various materials and applications assisted ensured meticulous commercial management. Given the unique setting, Diadem was also able to provide a rare understanding of sensitive environments and sustainability practices.

The construction documentation was completed, and speciality fabricators were managed, to implement a challenging array of various components including glazed interpretive signs, and the manufacture and implementation of interactive elements.

Diadem stayed true to the design intent by overseeing the manufacture and install of all elements. This included overseeing the manufacture and installation of components, paying close attention to sustainability as well as practicality.

Diadem implemented an array of components to bring this project to life:

  • Glazed interpretive signs
  • Aquatic tank glass sinks
  • Educational zone terraced steps
