Charter Hall Pillars

Bringing Country to corporate spaces

Through this signage project, Diadem created a respectful place to integrate Aboriginal art and culture into the corporate environments of a leading national property brand.

Diadem designed a series of Welcome to Country pillars which feature artworks co-created by Indigenous design studio, Balarinji with Aboriginal artists. These pillars are installed across multiple Charter Hall offices, enhancing cultural awareness and artist recognition across Australia.

Signposting a corporate leader

Charter Hall is a leading Australian property investment group. Seeking to better identify its office buildings, numbering almost one hundred nationwide, Charter Hall engaged Diadem to create a distinctive and meaningful signage solution for each site.

Diadem designed a three-pillar cluster: one identifying Charter Hall ownership, another displaying the site address, and a third dedicated to a Welcome to Country, featuring artwork by locally-connected Aboriginal artists.

Engaging Aboriginal artists

The incorporation of Aboriginal art provided an opportunity to meaningfully engage with Aboriginal artists. Charter Hall partnered with Balarinji, a highly regarded Indigenous design and strategy agency, to collaborate and co-create with locally-connected artists across the country, resulting in regionally distinct art styles.

Diadem worked closely with each unique pillar design to ensure the artwork was respectfully and accurately applied to the pillar structures. Due to the complexity of the artwork, a specialised manufacturing process was used to achieve the best visual outcome.

This project extended beyond visual integration. Each Welcome to Country pillar includes a QR code that allows visitors to learn more about the artist and story behind the work, enhancing awareness, education, and appreciation of local Aboriginal culture.

Connections with Country

Eight Aboriginal artists with strong connections to the Country and cultural groups of each of Charter Hall’s corporate buildings were engaged to develop artworks for the project.

Balarinji collaborated closely with each artist to develop their concepts into designs, ensuring a consistent approach through naming, design, art, and storytelling.

Through this project, the pillars play a significant role in Charter Hall’s commitment to reconciliation and recognition of Indigenous culture. Diadem is proud to have helped bring this visionary project to life in some of corporate Australia’s most high-profile addresses.
