SYDNEY HARBOUR FORESHORE AUTHORITY

Bringing experience
to the party

When Sydney’s popular Darling Harbour precinct adopted a new brand, the best way to get it out there was with some playful installations.

Working with Interbrand’s design concepts, Diadem’s brief was to create semi-permanent installations that would enliven the precinct and raise awareness of the new brand. Diadem also ensured the installations were produced for longevity, maintenance and tethering options in line with council regulations.

Darling Harbour is one of Sydney’s best-known mixed-use facilities, bringing together dining, shopping and entertainment at a spectacular location for around 25 million visitors every year.

To showcase its new brand, Darling Harbour engaged Diadem to deliver a series of large bespoke installations.

Bringing a fun
brand to life

Darling Harbour’s new brand features a stylised “inflatable balloon” typeface, which was to be unveiled at nominated locations across the precinct. The semi-permanent and playful installations were designed to reflect the balloon typeface and appear as actual balloons, right down to the creases.

To create these installations, Diadem considered scale, size and materiality. A range of materials was prototyped, including fibreglass, concrete and real balloons.

Diadem drew on its vast experience liaising with local government to make sure everything was delivered following local council guidelines.

Our integrated
model at work

Building effective placemaking installations and experiential environments demand strategy, design, technology, cross-channel integration, brand management, and understanding human behaviour.
