Enhancing
a masterplan

Melbourne and Olympic Parks are home to the city’s premier sport and leisure events, including the Australian Open which draws hundreds of thousands of visitors every summer.

Continued investment in the precinct created new access points for more patrons, and as a result, a new masterplan was required to keep up with growing crowds.

With its precinct wayfinding expertise, Diadem was engaged by Major Projects Victoria to redesign the site-wide wayfinding.

User-led
strategy

Diadem undertook a wide-ranging study to determine visitation figures and movements, including origin, destination, patron numbers and patron habits.

For example, the new Tanderrum Bridge had opened access from the city to the precinct, bringing a substantial shift in pedestrian flow. Diadem’s task was to assess the reimagined site and apply those findings into a clear masterplan signage suite.

Improving
wayfinding

Diadem reworked the wayfinding masterplan, factoring in the access point changes to improve patron clarity. This included end-to-end navigation for Tanderrum Bridge from its origin at Birrarung Marr to its endpoint near Margaret Court Arena.

Diadem enhanced signage through different colours for different users; blue for public access and grey for vehicular access. Diadem also collaborated with site architects to add 3D site maps to signs for easy navigation of the entire precinct.
