This signature façade in Melbourne’s growth corridor needed experts to turn 2D ideas into 3D reality.
A desirable destination
The Cranbourne Park Shopping Centre, owned by Vicinity Centres (then, Federation Centres) and ISPT are located in the heart of Melbourne’s eastern growth corridor, providing a desirable destination to the expanding local population.
Following an expansion and revitalisation of the centre, architects i2C created an iconic statement of identity that firmly establishes the centre’s brand presence; a feature façade.
2D to 3D
The heart of the idea was to create a wave of movement via the application of a ribbon façade onto an otherwise flat wall.
Diadem was engaged to take a 2D idea and bring it to life in 3D. We produced detailed parametric CAD drawings and modelling of each individual module, coordinated with the 3D scan of the building to delivery an accurate tolerance.
A wave of movement
Working closely with stakeholders, Diadem coordinated a prototype process to refine the design and ensure the final solution was elegant and matched the original design intent. The components were manufactured in approximately 140 modules, with each one fixed to an existing support structure. Worked closely with i2C and Hacer to undertake design development and construction management of the façade that comprised hundreds of green vertical ‘fins’ reaching to a height of 9 metres in places.
Navigating with budget allowance, evolving design, prototyping, fabrication and installation – it was Diadem’s integrated services model that brought this 300m signature façade treatment to life.
